Bob, we clearly see things differently, and that’s OK. To you, the movie relied on the color of its cast to earn its auspicious reputation. To me, it told a story of Black people with Black people without relying on antiquated tropes or incomplete narratives that have characterized our depictions in cinema since the advent of the medium. I agree that having all-Black casts should become common. I also agree the film should be judged on its own merits. As I mentioned, regardless of how you feel about the plot, it told a beautiful Black story, and we don’t get those often. Thanks for reading.
